Another
week, another dose of the beautful game. Over to Brazil,2013,the Confederations
Cup, and as expected, the odds were stacked against Nigeria and minnows
Tahiti, which really is not a country by itself, but an overseas country of the
French Republic.
With
back to back defeats to the tune of 1-6 to Nigeria, 0-10 to Spain and 0-8 to Uruguay, the scores
against Tahiti seem to have a striking resemblance to a cricket score than to a
football score!
Regardless
of their scoreline, you really need to give it up to the oceanic nation, who are
currently the 2012 OFC Nations Cup Champions, hence qualified for the
confederations much to the chagrin of New Zealand and Australia, though the
latter is no longer a member of the Oceania Football Confederation. Not to
mention their ever attacking display even when the scoreline did not favour
them, well, which was most of the time.
As
for me,i pit the final to be Brazil against world champions Spain as i really
do not fancy the Italians reaching the final and it will be even harder now that Super Mario has been
ruled out of the tournament as a result of an injury.Atleast he has been of
utmost behaviour in Brazil.
On
to the summer transfers, Carlos Tevez penned his 12 million euro move to Juventus,
and it seems that he has developed a tendency to badmouth his former club every
time he moves to a new one. “The targets of Juventus are higher than the
targets of Manchester City. Man City have an obsession of overtaking United as
the world’s biggest club, but in reality, City will never be a bigger club than
United”, said Tevez after being unveiled as Bianconeri’s No. 10.
In
the red side of Manchester, it’s a beehive of activities as the Red Devils
continue with their ‘Never say die attitude’ but now off the pitch as they
continue to pursue the signatures of Leighton Baines,Kevin Strootman and Thiago
Alcantara. Rumour has it that Thiago’s move to Old Trafford is imminent after
demanding more playing time and being a regular at Barca, after playing second
fiddle to Xavi last season.
However,
Man United have a history of ‘so close yet so far signings’ with the likes of
Ronaldinho in 2003 and Lucas Moura in 2012. Whether history will repeat itself
with young Thiago Alcantara remains to be seen.
