KENYA XV’s TIME TO SHINE

Exactly 22 days after lifting the Elgon cup against Uganda our boys did it again. Kenya XV’s made all rugby lovers have a good day. The Kenya XV’s lifted the country’s flag up high when they ravaged through the Uganda cranes today at 12:30 pm at the CAR Division 1A tournament in Madagascar. Kenya XV’s really played their hearts out and this was seen in the end results of the game. I for one was very surprised at the score. I would not even be surprised if for a moment some people thought it was the Kenya 7’s playing. By the final whistle the scores were 52 Kenya – 11 Uganda. The Kenya XV’s putthe ‘Sebos’to their place. This was the biggest Kenya XV’s win over the Uganda Cranes since 1997 when Kenya defeated Uganda 67-7.
This was the same team that defeated Uganda cranes 19-15 in Kampala exceptfor a few changes. The team included three Kenya 7’s players namely Andrew Amonde, Fabian Olando and Oscar Ayodi who rep[laced David Mogere, Dennis Muhanji and David Ambunya. The lions came out in a big way and roared the ‘sebos’ did not know what hit them. Once the tries started coming they dint get a chance to answer. By the end of the 1st half the scores were 19-6 to Kenya. The overwhelming scores were courtesy of Edwin Achayo , Joshua Chisanga, Wilson Kopond, Oliver Mang’eni, Brian Nyikuli, Andrew Amonde, Cyprian Kuto. Ken Andola made two good conversions, Fabian Olando also had a conversion to his name and finally Isaac Adimo made two good penalty kicks. It is evident that the new coach Jerome Paarwater is very effective and the fruits of his work can already be seen.
The win against Uganda cranes means that Kenya XV’s have advanced to the finals and they play Zimbabwe who also out did the hosts Madagascar. The win also earned us a slot in next year’s world cup qualifiers. The faceoff between Kenya and Zimbabwe will be played on Sunday at exactly 2:30pm. This will not be a walk in the park for us. Zimbabwe is ranked 31 while we follow closely behind them at 37. On that same day Uganda will play Madagascar and the looser of this match will be relegated to Division 1B.
With that we out, for those heading to Diani for the touch rugby this weekend see you there.Till then sayonara.
