Ascend W1

I’ve always thought of Huawei as the ‘Aquaman’ of smartphones since THE IDEOS, and however awesome subsequent editions may be, I don’t regard them any better(but that’s just me).
The W1 is the latest in the Huawei Ascend smartphone series. It’s actually the first Huawei phone to run on Windows Phone 8. It was announced at the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show (C.E.S) then released on January 2013.
The Huawei Ascend W1 comes in either Dream blue, black, Magenta or white. It weighs about 120g. It’s dimensions are 124.5*63.7*10.5 mm. It looks too much like a Nokia Lumia (looks like we got us a copycat). See image.
The W1 has a LCD capacitive touchscreen. It’s screen has a high resolution (232 pixels per inch). The only feature about this particular phone that got me is it’s multitouch screen (up to four fingers).
Memory-wise it has 512 megabytes of RAM, 4GB internal memory (flash), and expandable memory (up to 32GB). There is nothing to celebrate about that 4GB memory because the O.S (windows phone 8) occupies a little over half the memory leaving the user with about 1.88 GB.
Ascend W1 has a 5 megapixel camera (2594*1944) with autofocus, face detection, geo-tagging and touch-focus. It has a front camera of 0.3MP
It runs on windows phone 8 with Qualcomm MSM8230 Snapdragon. It has a 1.2 GHz dual core processor. It’s packed with Adreno 305 graphics engine which is quite powerful.
VERDICT: it’s a good trial by Huawei but I label it a flop for the following simple reasons, one, its shape is too Lumia, the internal memory to too low, the screen resolution isn’t high enough, the front camera has a too-low clarity, and it was introduced to the Chinese market as the cheapest Windows Phone 8 device (sucks the prestige right out of it).
